Exposure sheet started today. We stuck on the first half of the first scene. For half a day. Long discussion of aesthetics of the first shot. Even Oscar was interested and miaowed us something in advise from the first floor. It didn't help much. Tomorrow I'm gonna have the same long conversation with a super set-designer. We definitely need a conceptualisation of the presence of unusual objects in the frame.
Again discussed the weather. We are going to shoot for the whole day (=24hours!) in exterior, and no one knows what to do if it rains (as Paris summer resembles this year a winter in Milan, or deep autumn in Moscow). Since the beginning of july there was not a single day when it didn't rain in Paris! Of course, we can envisage the whole shooting in interiors, but it will we a different film. Really a different one.  So we pray.

They asked me once about "The Return of Noa" why don't I shoot it in Moscow. Foreigners in Moscow have different complications, I said. But how to explain it to someone who lives in Paris and has never been to Moscow..?
Начали раскадровку. Застряли на половине первой сцены. На пол дня. Долго обсуждали эстетику первого кадра. Даже Оскар заинтересовался и что-то нам мяуко-посказывал со второго этажа. Не помогло. Завтра, чувствую, не менее длинный разговор на эту же тему предстоит с суперхудожником-постановщиком. Нам явно не хватает концептуализации присутствия непонятных объектов в кадре. 

Снова обсуждали погоду. Снимаем целый день (читай 24 часа) на натуре, что делать, если пойдёт дождь (а парижское лето в этом году больше всего похоже на зиму в Милане или осень в Москве) никто не знает. С начала июля в Париже не было ни одного дня, когда бы не шёл дождь хоть чуть-чуть. Конечно, можно предусмотреть вариант съёмок в помещении, но на самом деле это будет другой фильм. Поэтому молимся.
Меня, кстати, когда-то про возвращение Ноа спрашивали, почему не снимаю в Москве... Говорю, в Москве у приезжих совсем другие проблемы... но как это объяснишь кому-то, кто в Москве никогда не бывал.

So, seven days. Yes, the first half of our two weeks challenge was fast and not of a big interest. I've just finished the script (it's time for it already..). Casting finished and the actors are charming. You gonna love them.

I met today a chef of our dinner, as of course the new story is also about food and art of eating, as it's another story of Noa. Of course we need everything to be as beautiful as the desserts of Noa, only that she doesn't cook anything except them. So we have to invite someone to do the rest of the dinner.

Max is a genius. Italian, of course. When he shows you the incredible constructions of his dishes, and mentions in passing that this or that is easy to cook, that he makes it every day at home, before your eyes stands the picture of italian dolce vita where every day is a holiday with a lot of sun, wine and fantastic eating from morning till night.


We decided, that Max's menu for our dinner will be a surprise. What will give to our actors another pretext for improvisation. Improvisation in this film is an important matter. A long one to explain. So we'll live it for the next time

Итак, осталось семь дней. Да-да, первая половина двух недель пролетела совершенно незаметно. Только что дописала сценарий - пора уже, вообще-то. Кастинг проведён - и у нас блестящий актёрский состав.

Сегодня встречалась с шеф-поваром нашего ужина, ведь наша новая история тоже связана с едой (а как может быть иначе? ведь это ещё одна история из жизни Ноа), и надо, чтобы всё было красиво (Ноа, она специалист по десертам, всё остальное - вне её сферы интересов).

Макс - гений. Естественно, итальянец. Когда он показывает навороченные конструкции своих творений и, легко так, произносит: ну, это легко, и это легко, это я каждый день делаю дома..,  тут же рисуешь себе какую-то невероятную картину итальянской dolce vita, где каждый день праздник, потому что солнце, вино и невероятная еда с утра до вечера.

Мы договорились, что его меню для нашего ужина друзей будет сюрпризом, что даст лишний повод для импровизации актёров. Вообще про импровизацию отдельно, в следующем выпуске.

The end is always a beginning / Конец - это же всегда начало?

Two weeks afterwards I'm brave enough to share it with you: we've f***d up Ulule. The site that makes good things happen, the one where we tried to gather some funds for "The Return of Noa". Sounds sad, but we had no chance. It's not that it was impossible to gather all that money, just at some moment we realised, that the project is too complicated to make it as auto-production. Anyway, what we tried to gather would never cover the minimum costs of the film. That's why we won't shoot our beautiful fairy tale "The Return of Noa" this summer.
But! We've invented a new challenge (as it was really too sad not to shoot anything this summer), and we'll try (already trying) to prepare the shooting of another story of Noa in two(!!) weeks. The story will also be very cute. A countdown starts tomorrow. Live. In this blog. Wish us good luck!

Две недели спустя собралась с силами и говорю это в прямом эфире: мы про***ли Улюль. Сайт, на котором собирали деньги на проект "Возващение Ноа". Грустно, но шансов не было никаких. Не в смысле собрать денег. Скорее - в какой-то момент поняли, что всё гораздо сложнее, и проект надо делать по-другому. Да и тех денег, которые собирали не хватило бы на "минимальные" расходы по фильму. Поэтому прекрасную сказку "Возвращение Ноа" мы не снимаем этим летом.
Зато - барабанная дробь - придумали себе новый challenge, и пробуем за две недели подготовить съёмки другой истории Ноа (две недели подготовки, включая написание сценария!). Тоже очень симпатичной. Обратный отсчёт в прямом эфире начиная с завтрашнего дня. Пожелайте нам удачи!!
